We go beyond the light.

Student: I have one other question, reading some works on death and when one is dying and one is releasing hold of the body. Can one just continue with self-inquiry in the process when the subtle experiences start to arise?

Robert Adams: Unless you've been practicing before it will be most difficult to hold on to the I when you're dying. For with the average person when death starts arriving there is total fear and you become more engrossed in the I than ever before. That is why upon death according to the ancient scriptures the I leaves the body and grabs hold of another body and then you go through the same experiences of I.

Student: But what can one do when one is dying and maybe in the first three days - was looking at - that can happen any time you know?

Robert: As I said, it is not what one can do when you're dying. You will not have any choice because a death experience will be so frightening to you, it will be so powerful in your mind, you will not be able to do anything.

But, if you've been practicing eliminating the I all of these years, perhaps you have not come home yet, awakened yet, but you'll be an advanced devotee and you will not hold on to the I, you will simply smile as you leave your body and you will realize that you are I-am, consciousness.

Student: Because in the book I was reading they said the mandala appears and at the center is the white light and if one just surrenders to that light then you can let go more.

Robert: In this teaching you have to ask yourself, "To whom does the white light come?
To whom does the mandala come?"

To the ego, to the I.
The I is experiencing the vision of the mandala.

It does not free you. You cannot become free this way.

The whole I has to go.

In other words, the object and the observer have to both become annihilated.
You are the observer, the I is the observer it's observing the mandala.
They both have to go. The only good that can do you I think, is because you are experiencing the vision of the mandala you can become a buddhist monk in the next incarnation.

And you'll sit if front of mandala for thirty-forty years.
Contemplating the mandala. That is as much good as you'll get out of it. (laughter)

Student: Well in this teaching the light is supposed to be our Self, you know, who we really are. You know and they say that if you get distracted by other worlds and that's where you end up then you're in doubt, you have like a chance a special opportunity...

Robert: Again you will not be able to do those things unless you've been practicing meditation before.
That is why in the Tibetan Book of the Dead they explain you have to practice how to die for years before you die.

To die correctly. Most people do not do this.
But we go further in Jnana.

We go beyond the light.
When you split the atom there is a tremendous light.

When you go deep within yourself you will see fantastic light.
 It's like seeing visions.
You're seeing the source of your existence.
But you're not seeing the real source.
 Which is nothing.
You're seeing the source of your existence, the light.
The question is, "Where did the light come from?"

Go beyond that. That is the only way you become free. But lights, visions, mandalas, colors, those are all in the occult world.

We're told to go beyond the occult. Beyond the visions. Beyond the light.

To become totally liberated, totally free.

One must destroy the I who sees all these visions, all these lights and you do that by inquiring, "To whom has the I come?" or "Who am I?"

This would mean that you would be forever happy, forever at peace.

Look at the second you are living in.
Is there anything happening in that second?

Is there something annoying you, something bothering you?

There is no time for this to happen, because you are living in the second.

In the second in which you live right now,
there is absolutely nothing happening to make you miserable,
to make you happy, according to human standards,
you are living in the immediate second.

Now what if you were able to take that second to expand it,
expand it, into eternity, into infinity.

This would mean that you would be forever happy, forever at peace.

~Robert Adams .

Change is the ego.

It  is true when you find a new environment,
when you see a new teacher, when you read a new book,
the novelty is very strong, it's great, because everything is new,
and human beings love change.

Change is the ego.

It is the ego that pushes you around the world
and wants you to do this and do that, and see this, and change jobs,
and go change teachers, and change clothes, and change, change.
The ego does all these things for you.

When you remember this you will remember who your Master is.

The more active you become mentally, the greater the ego,
the greater the mind.

And the mind is your Master, the mind is your God,
for you're following your mind.

If you learn to control your mind, you will have less desires,
less needs and less wants.

And you will find eternal bliss,
eternal peace, eternal happiness.

No one can really interfere in your life.

It is your life.

You came to this earth specifically to transcend the body
and become eternally free.

Consequently see what you're doing with your life,
how you act every day, the things that disturb you,
the things that annoy you, the things that frighten you,
the things that you love, the things that you want, the things that you enjoy.

They're all impostors. They're all lies.

The truth is that you're eternal sat-chit-ananda,
parabrahman, absolute reality, pure intelligence,
ultimate oneness, nirvana, emptiness.

You are that, stay like that and be happy.

into eternal delight

There is a very simple secret to being happy.

LETTING GO
There is a very simple secret to being happy.
Just let go of your demand on this moment.

Any time you have a demand on the moment to give you something or remove something, there is suffering.

Your demands keep you chained to the dream state of the conditioned mind.
The problem is that when there is a demand, you completely miss what is now.

Letting go applies to the highest sacred demand, and even to the demand for love.

If you demand in some subtle way to be loved, even if you get love, it is never enough.

In the next moment, the demand reasserts itself, and you need to be loved again.

But as soon as you let go, there is knowing in that instant that there is love here already.

The mind is afraid to let go of its demand because the mind thinks that if it lets go, it is not going to get what it wants—as if demanding works.

This is not the way things work.

Stop chasing peace and stop chasing love, and your heart becomes full.

Stop trying to be a better person, and you are a better person.

Stop trying to forgive, and forgiveness happens.

 Stop and be still.

- Adyashanti, Emptiness Dancing

The Transparency of Things

Rupert Spira - The Transparency of Things - p 48 - Ego

Imagine you have spent your whole life living in a large house serving a demanding man who lives on the top floor.

Although you never see the man you spend from morning until night doing his chores. One evening during a rare break you are lamenting your fate to a friend. The friend suggest you try and reason with the old man.

When he hears that you never see him, let alone speak to him he is puzzled and encourages you to go find him.

You are reluctant at first but after several such encounters with your friend, you venture into the old man's room.
On you first visit you only have the courage to peep around the door but you cannot see the man. When you report this to your friend he encourages you to be bolder and have a good look into the room.

You make more visits to the old man's room and each time you search his quarters a little more thoroughly. It is only after several visits that you are convinced that there is no old man.
However such as your habits that for some time you still continue to wake up at 6 am every morning and perform many of the tasks you used to perform while serving the imaginary old man. Some of these habits cease immediately, whilst others take time to come to an end.

In this story the old man is the separate entity and the friend is one who encourages you to look inside and find out who this one that rules you life really is.

As we look more and more deeply into the nature of our self we find that there is no entity there.
We spend our lives serving a non-existent entity.
It is only our imagination that binds us, and it is clarity that liberates.
In most cases this requires revisiting the issue many times, each time going a little more deeply into it, in order to be absolutely certain there is no personal entity there.

Our subservience to a separate entity consists,at the level of the mind, in the belief that "I am a separate, personal entity", and at the level of the body, as a feeling that "I am this body", or "I am in this body".

In Reality, everything occurs of its own,

Image may contain: cloud, sky, outdoor and text

You will begin to feel a peace and a joy

Think about that.
Can you imagine brushing your teeth and flossing three times a day for a thousand years.
Having to take a shower, eat.
Always going along with what is happening in the world for a thousands of years.
 You will beg to die.

This is why, kindly nature allows you to live so long in your body when you do not awaken as reality.

You have so many years and then you're given another chance to have a new body.

And again you have the opportunity to find your Self, to use discrimination, to be able to separate the wheat from the chaff and again you don't make it and you take on another body and go through more experiences.

[…]
If you begin to let go of the world something will immediately start to happen to you.

Immediately you will to grow spiritually.

 Something will take its place.

To the extent that you let go of the world with all its problems, with all its beauty, with all its joys and sorrows, to the extent you can let go of that, to that extent will you be filled up with spirit.

If you let go 20% you will be filled 20%, if you let go 40% you will be filled 40%.

The void will always become filled. The space you leave when you let go will become filled with God, consciousness, nirvana, call it anything you like.
You will begin to feel a peace and a joy that you've never felt before.
To that extent that you can let go.

-- Robert Adams, T96: Self Inquiry Precursor: A Disgust For The World

You are the pure Self.

Identify with the reality.

Let's say for instance you have a hernia. You go to the doctor.
There is nothing wrong with going to the doctor.
There is nothing wrong with this at all.
The doctor tells you what you have to do to correct the hernia.

All the time you realize you know that you are not the body,
you are not the image on the chalkboard.

You are the pure Self.

But yet you go through the hernia operation.
You don't think about it. You don't argue about it.
You've done whatever has to be done.
And the body appears to be in good shape again.

When all the time you realize that nothing happened,
there was noone who went through this experience.

This is how you should look at your everyday affairs,
at your business.Look at your home life. Look at the world,
look at what is happening in the world the same way.

Images, everything is images.

The light of the Self appears to cause these images
to take form and to do whatever it has to do.

But there is only the Self, this is the reality
and the images do not even exist.

We don't even say, "They appear to exist."
For when you think they appear to exist you're giving them value,
you're giving them power.
You're believing in them as if they were reality.

So you have to ask the question. "To whom do they exist?
To whom do these images exist?

They exist to me. I feel them."

As soon as you say this to yourself
immediately the answer should come to you.

It is the I, the I-thought that feels the images not you.

You are free and clear, you have absolutely nothing to do
with the I-thought.

Now when you have done this you have separated the disease,
the problems where they may seem to be from yourself
haven't you?

Because the I-thought is out here some place.
It has nothing to do with you.

The I-thought feels sickness, it feels a headache.
The I-thought feels that when something good happens
you're happy in this world.

That is all the I-thought that feels this.
So you just watch. You observe.

As you keep doing something like this, as you understand
what I'm talking about, you will notice that the pain disappears.

For after all who has the pain? The I-thought, not you.
Therefore look at yourself as two separate entities, this will help.

You look at yourself as the I-thought which goes through the world
and has all kinds of experiences in the world,
good and bad, rich and poor, sick and healthy.

And the Self which is absolute reality
and is free and clear of everything.

This simply means that what you call sickness or disease
or a problem is outside of your jurisdiction.

It appears to exist by itself, it is not you.
You have absolutely nothing to do with these things.
Do not judge by appearances.

Do not try to analyze or figure it out.
For you get deeply involved when you do this.

Even discussing this is not right. This is between you and yourself.

There is absolutely nothing to discuss.

 Nothing to talk about.
You remember the chalkboard analogy.

And you realize that you've always been, you always will be.
There never was a time when you were not and these other things
were simply images that seemed to be superimposed on the self.
So do not identify with the disease itself.
Do not identify with the problem or whatever.

Rather identify with the Self.
The one that has always been. I am that!

It's not really hard.
As you go through everyday experiences always catch yourself.
Always catch yourself thinking.
Catch yourself worrying, being afraid.
And immediately understand that you are the chalkboard.

You are the absolute reality that has never changed.
It has always been and will always be. You are perfect.

-Robert Adams - T130: Health Sickness And Death

HEAVEN is a WASTE OF TIME

Visitor: It is said in the scriptures that by doing virtuous deeds
people are assured of heavenly enjoyments after
death.

Bhagavan: May be. But are you sure that what all you do are virtuous actions only? Even then after heavenly life you have to experience the fruits of actions which had not yet fructified.
One would have to roll again and again, endlessly, in the cycle of birth.

V: That is why I sought Bhagavan's clarification.
Bh: Our aim should be attainment of eternal bliss by realizing the truth.
How can you aspire for karmic results?

V: Without proper understanding many people are mad after heavenly enjoyments.

Bh: One might think that heaven is a place of enjoyment.
However, things are not  different from this world there.
Attachments, prejudices, jealousies etc. are there too.
That enjoyment too is perishable for everything is centered on the ego.
Because of pleasures one's mind would not then turn inward in search of truth.
It is such a waste!

After the good karma which gave one the enjoyments of heaven are over one has to return.

What needs to be done is to enquire: 'for whom is this desire for heavenly enjoyment?'
Such an enquiry is an absolute necessity.

V: People wrongly superimpose permanence on
heavenly enjoyments.
Bh: How can it be?
Everlasting bliss can be obtained only
by eliminating the cycle of birth and death.
Heaven is not the place for the realization of truth.

V: It means that we should not aspire for the fruits of actions but surrender them to God. This also implies we should make an attempt to attain self-knowledge here and now.

Bh: We do not know where heaven is nor as to how it is.
But we aspire for unknown things.

In contrast all the requirements for self-knowledge is ready at hand.

Why bother about unknown things when the wise ones
have shown us the way to attain Self-knowledge here itself?

Begin by wondering or looking for the 'I',

Begin by wondering or looking for the 'I',
where it goes every night when you go to sleep.

Where do 'I' go?
And from where does it arise?
When you first awaken in that instant, there is no 'I'.
But as you keep waking up all of your problems, all of your troubles,
all of your worldly things, become aware to you.

The 'I' is awake.
I feel this, I feel that, I feel everything.
Where was the 'I' prior to that?
Where did it go before I woke up?
And as you are falling asleep, the same thing.
As you know before you fall asleep, the 'I' leaves you.
Where did it go?
And you're sound asleep without the 'I'.

As you think about these things, as you ponder on the 'I',
this is pure meditation.

This is the highest meditation, following the 'I' to its source.

Who needs these worldly things?

Who feels hurt when they are gone?
And who feels happy when they have them?
Watch your attachments.
Become aware of what you really are.
See what bothers you the most, what annoys you,
what makes you angry, what makes you upset.
Watch yourself.
And always realize, and I'll reiterate this over and over again,
and I'll tell you about this all the time, always be aware that
what is happening to the 'I' is not you.

You are not the 'I'.
You are consciousness.
You are sat-chit-ananda.
You are absolute reality, pure awareness.

That is your real nature and that's who you are.
You are not the 'I'.
And the way you find out your real nature is
by following the personal-'I' to its source.

Finding the source from where the 'I' arises,
and finding the source where the 'I' sets.
As you practice these things you're practicing pure meditation,
and you will be free.

~Robert Adams - T. 42 The Fourth State of Consciousness -

Feel free to ask questions

[Ye are the light of the world], this is true. But you will not acknowledge it.

You will acknowledge the layers of cloth. The problems the inconsistencies. The things that appear erroneous. That you are always ready to acknowledge. You are ready to stick up for your rights. To fight for your beliefs. Yet these are the things that have to go. All of these things have to go. You have to become virtually empty. Totally empty. There is nothing that can hurt you. As I explained before unless certain things happen in your life that seem to hurt you - I use the word seem because the hurt is only an appearance - you can never grow. This is why when a true Sage comes into your life he or she pushes your buttons. To see what you're all about. To see what will happen. If you really have true grit and can hold on or if you're still weak and drop away.

Think of the things that are going on in your life right now, good or bad. There are still people who tell me, "Robert I don't think I need this teaching because I've got everything I want."

How can we misunderstand a teaching like this.

If the world is an illusion if it doesn't really exist then having everything you want is a double illusion.

The idea is not to want anything.
It sounds paradoxical.
Everything has already been given.
You are well cared for.

[…] When you hold on to things you stagnate.
We [are] meant to loose everything to let go not to hold onto things. This is why God told Moses when he was walking in the desert for forty years, "Everyday you shall receive new manna from heaven but do not save it, share it with everyone and leave the rest.

A new manna shall be provided for you daily."
The ones that didn't listen and they put manna away for the next day all kinds of terrible things happened to those people.

They quarreled amongst themselves, they fought each other for the manna, they claimed there would not be enough tomorrow and they died at the wayside.

But those who had faith in God's words and didn't concern themselves about the morrow were well supplied and they made it to the land of milk and honey.

I think that is how the story goes? Where was the land of milk and honey? You don't know Fred?
SF: The desert?

R: Sounds good.
Well this is something like us.
We go about things in the wrong way.

The entire banking system of the world is simply a plot for certain people to become rich.

The whole world is nonsense and as long as we abide in the world we're going to suffer.

By abiding in the world I mean, mentally.

Again this does not mean that I'm telling you to give up your job and live in a cave and leave your family.

I'm referring to go on with your work and do whatever you have to do but to mentally let go of attachment to person place and thing.

Everything begins in your mind.

Again I tell you so many times do not concern yourself with how your work is going to be done or whether or not it will be done.

The same power that grows the grass, that causes the sun to shine just right, so that life is maintained and sustained. That power will maintain and sustain you. If you trust it and have faith in it. And one day you will recognize and learn that you are that power!

And that the maintainer and sustainer comes out of you. You have been giving life to all the world.

It is because of you that the universe exists.

It's your fault, you did it. Look what you've done.

A fine mess you've made. So what are you going to do about it?

It's as if you exhaled and created the universe and inhaled and annihilated the universe.

That's a good picture to have of God.

They say a breath of God takes two hundred and forty thousand years.

So when God exhales the universe comes into existence and lasts approximately two hundred and forty thousand years.
And then God inhales and everything is dissolved for another two hundred and forty thousand years. Then God exhales again and the world is created again. That's a stupid story.

(students laugh)
SH: It sure is, yeah. (students laugh)

R: But whatever the story is it's a story and it's a lie.

Why can't I just tell you nothing exists.
No thing is the way it appears.
You start with yourself.
This is the reason if you can get rid of your body and realize one day that you are not the body or the mind the whole universe will disappear for you.

So do not try to get rid of certain things in your life for they will just be replaced with new things.

If you try to get rid of your husband or your wife and then a new one comes along that is worse than the last one. This goes on and on. Do not try to get rid of anything externally.

But work on removing the lie that you are a body-mind.
That's all you've got to do. It's been made too easy for us.

It simply boils down to the I-thought.

The I-thought is the culprit.

All of these things that I've been talking about are all attached to the I-thought.
Great Sages have therefore told us if we can only learn to remove the I-thought you'll have a different picture of everything.

Everything will disappear in this world.

For everything is only in the I-thought and as far as I'm concerned the easiest way to do this is to inquire from where the I-thought comes.

Can anything be more easier?

Just to find out where the I-thought came from will remove all of your problems you ever had.
Will set you free. It's all you have to do.

Spend your spare time asking yourself where the I-thought came from.

Can anything be more simpler? "Where did the I-thought come from?"

There is no answer to that question because the answer will only build up your ego.

That is why there is no answer.

You therefore follow the I-thought to it's source and a place has been designated where you should follow the I-thought to and that is the spiritual heart.

The spiritual heart is consciousness, absolute reality, God, nirvana, sat-chit-ananda, Brahman.

As the I-thought is dissolved in the spiritual heart you become your Self, simple. All you've got to do right now is to do it, and you will be free.

Feel free to ask questions or make silly statements or do anything you like.
-- Robert Adams, T101: The Jnani Does Not Come In Peace!

facilitated by Grace

What is searching for higher truth is not a personal "I" but an aspect of consciousness itself, which expresses as inspiration, devotion, dedication, and perseverance—all of which are aspects of the spiritual will.

Therefore, the source of the search for the Self is the Self itself actualizing the necessary processes by virtue of its own qualities, which are facilitated by Grace.

From: The Eye of the I: From Which Nothing is Hidden (2002), Chapter 9: Advanced Awareness, p. 132

The Basic Process

To look within is an attitude rather than a technique or spiritual practice.

This means to relinquish the fascination with the content of mind and the world that it reflects. T

his detachment may be felt initially as a possible loss, as if one is facing experiencing the death of the world and all its promises.

Such a death may be passively experienced as such, but it is merely the passing of an illusion.

The source of pleasure never was without but was always within.

It was never the world that granted pleasure at all but one’s own enjoyment of it.

It is not really the loss of the world itself that is feared, but boredom.

Boredom passes when it is recognized as merely the consequence of clinging to a yearning for the past or the future, and it is only the ego that can be bored.

The ego thrives on novelty and is completely dependent on what is happening ‘next’.

The ego therefore thrives and lives on anticipation of future satisfaction instead of experiencing the absolute completion that is available only in the Now.

Akin to the fear of boredom is its underlying illusion that boredom is constituted by nothingness.

The illusion of a possible void presents itself and seems a threat.

The path, then, is from letting go of the illusion of the realm of the everythingness of the mind/world, through the illusion of void/nothingness, to the goal of the awareness of Allness that replaces both prior illusory states.

It is reassuring to remember that all states are illusions and capable of being traversed by the spiritual will and progressive awareness.

Who Is Doing The Seeking?

The illusion of the ego dissolves as the prefix ‘I’ is removed from all action.

What ego claims as its actions are merely self-existent characteristics whose functions are automatic, determined by local conditions, and without an imaginary ‘I’ to activate them.

One does not think, feel, or even exist because of an action or decision by some inner, invisible ‘I’.

Thinking and feeling occur unasked.

►What is searching for higher truth is not a personal ‘I’ but an aspect of consciousness itself that expresses as inspiration, devotion, dedication, and perseverance, all of which are aspects of the spiritual will. Therefore, the source of the search for the Self is the Self itself actualizing the necessary processes by virtue of its own qualities, which are facilitated by Grace.◄

As another example, curiosity is a quality that exists without a personal self or decision to activate it.

Curiosity, one might say, is an independent, impersonal quality of consciousness and is universal throughout the animal kingdom.

It does not need an ‘I’ to be curious.

There is no inner, independent personal ‘I’ that makes decisions; to prefix all thinking, action, and feeling with the pronoun ‘I’ is just a convenience of speech.

The inner personal self could be referred to just as well as an ‘it’.

everything is made only out of Consciousness.

The mind, the body and the world
are made out of Consciousness but
Consciousness is not made out of
them. It is made out of itself.
Therefore everything is made only

Anything that you do out of unconditional love for someone else,
will awaken your True Nature.

As a result of this, your life will begin to see the clouds disperse.

The sun will become more apparent,
because you have made the effort
to negate the little, human self, the ego.

To live according to a Higher Vision,
you will cease creating negative repercussions to your actions.

For you will begin to live in unconditional love.

You will live in The Light of the Eternal Sun.

the mind is totally unreliable.

By observation, it can be seen that beneath the images and words themselves, there is a driving energy, a desire to think, to keep busy with any input the mind can find to fill in the gaps.
One can detect a drive to "thinkingness" that is impersonal.

With observation, one can detect that there is no "I" thinking the thoughts at all.
In fact, the "I" rarely intervenes.

From: The Eye of the I: From Which Nothing is Hidden (2002), Chapter 7: The Mind, p. 96

--------------------------------
With Additional Context:
--------------------------------

The Buddha said that the true self is glimpsed in the space between thoughts, and yet, there seems to be no cessation in the mind's endless activities.
If anything, the mind seems to engage in endless frenetic activity as though it dreaded a moment of silence more than anything else.
Does it fear that silence will mean its end has come?
It seems to pin its hope of survival on non-stop chatter.
It will, in fact, quickly fill in any possibility of silence with nonsense rhymes or senseless sound bytes; it will start chanting "cha-cha-cha" or "itty-bitty-boo" or "bee-bop-a-boo"—anything rather than silence.

What in the world is going on with the mind?

Motive

►By observation it can be seen that beneath the images and words themselves, there is a driving energy, a desire to think, to mentate, to keep busy with any input the mind can find to fill in the gaps. One can detect a drive to 'thinkingness', which is impersonal. With observation, one can detect that there is no 'I' thinking the thoughts at all. In fact, the 'I' rarely intervenes.◄ The real 'I' has trouble even getting in a few sensible words or thoughts. When it is capable of this, we call this intervention 'concentration’; but it takes effort and energy to push aside the babble and distractions to be able to organize a sequence of logical thoughts.

The first part of such a process is to focus on the desired subject and limit the stream of content to the topic chosen for contemplation.

Psychologists here surmise that the stream of thought is determined by instinctual drives, or that the content of thought is organized according to associations and conditioning.

All the theorizing about the nature of thoughts surmise that there is an inner 'thinker', an invisible homunculus who sits in charge of this ongoing, multifactoral set of processes called mentation.

Computers study these phenomena and hope to come up with artificial intelligence programs.

However, at best, these merely imitate certain limited logic processes.
The multifaceted, complex processes of the total mind are nonlinear and unable to be encompassed within the Newtonian paradigm to be suitable for computerization.

Its primary content is best described as seemingly random or chaotic, with interspersed runs of logic, reason, or intelligence which just as quickly fade back into the noise of endless chatter again.

The periods of intelligent logic sequences seem to appear chaotically.

Like reveries, fantasies, or daydreams, the mind just as randomly selects short periods of reality-focused, sequential processing.
Intuitive leaps occur with no warning.

Just as likely are periods of thought blocking, lapses, forgettings, and various fragments lost in an endless maze.

One thing is obvious—the mind is totally unreliable.

It cannot really be depended upon at all. It is not able to be consistent, and its performance is sporadic as well as erratic.

Emptiness is the Self. Emptiness is your real nature.

Image may contain: 1 person

Emptiness is realization. Emptiness is Brahman.
Emptiness is the Self. Emptiness is your real nature.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

The important point here is you have to stop the thoughts from rising.
In order for you to do this you have to find the source to your thoughts.

What is the source of your thoughts?
You never answer a question like this.

For if you answer this question it's the ego answering the question.

The whole idea is to be silent.

Not to add affirmations or words to your garbage pail.
It is already filled with garbage.

By garbage I mean, preconceived ideas, dogmas, opinions,
samskaras from previous lives, you're filled with these things
and you are a reacting machine, you react,
that is what you do all day is react, react, react.

Therefore when you try to learn more knowledge and
you read more books all you're doing is adding on to the garbage pail.

Of course most of you realize, the highest truth is to delete, not to add.
To get rid of the things you believe in now.

So empty yourself out totally and completely.
All of your ideas, your feelings, all have to be emptied out of you.

When you become totally and completely empty
there is nothing you have to do to fill it up again.

Emptiness is realization. Emptiness is Brahman.

Emptiness is the Self. Emptiness is your real nature.
So do not concern yourself whether the world is real or
if everything is preordained.

Do not waste your time thinking about things like this.

Wouldn't it be more useful for you to say,

"To whom do these thoughts come?
Who is thinking these thoughts?
To whom do they come? They come to me.
Then who am I?"

I tell you this will be more useful for you.
You've been wasting your time trying to find out
what is real, what is false,
who is enlightened, who is not,
who is real, who is a fake, who is this, who is that
and trying to make your life a certain way
when the one is always looking after you.
The power that knows the way will always take care of you
and lead you to where you're supposed to be.
Wake up! Be free!

~Robert Adams - Is Everything Preordained?

The highest teaching in the world is Silence.

The highest teaching in the world is Silence.
There is nothing higher than this.
A devotee who sits with a sage purifies his mind just by being with the sage.

No words exchanged, no words said.
Silence is the Ultimate Reality.

Everything exists in this world through Silence.
True silence really means going deep within yourself to that place where nothing is happening, where you transcend time and space.

You go into a brand new dimension of nothingness.
That is where all the power is.
 That's your real home.

That's where you really belong where there is no good and bad, no one trying to achieve anything.

Just being - pure being.

The only freedom you will ever have is when you go deep into the Silence and you transcend, transmute the universe, your body and your affairs.

~ Robert Adams

When one realizes that one is the universe

When one realizes that one is the universe, complete and at one with All That Is, forever without end, no further suffering is possible.

The incredible beauty of all things shone forth in all their perfection, and where the world saw ugliness, there was only timeless beauty.

This spiritual love suffused all perception, and all boundaries between here and there, or then and now, and separation disappeared.

During the years spent in inner silence, the strength of the Presence grew.

Life was no longer personal; a personal will no longer existed.

The personal 'I' had become an instrument of the Infinite Presence and went about and did as it was willed.

People felt an extraordinary peace in the aura of that Presence.

Seekers sought answers but as there was no longer any such individual as David, they were actually finessing answers from their own Self, which was not different from mine.

From each person the same Self shone forth from their eyes.

The miraculous happened, beyond ordinary comprehension.

Many chronic maladies from which the body had suffered for years disappeared; eyesight spontaneously normalized, and there was no longer a need for the lifetime bifocals.

Occasionally, an exquisitely blissful energy, an Infinite Love, would suddenly begin to radiate from the heart toward the scene of some calamity.

Once, while driving on a highway, this exquisite energy began to beam out of the chest. As the car rounded a bend, there was an auto accident; the wheels of the overturned car were still spinning. The energy passed with great intensity into the occupants of the car and then stopped of its own accord. Another time, while I was walking on the streets of a strange city, the energy started to flow down the block ahead and arrived at the scene of an incipient gang fight. The combatants fell back and began to laugh, and again, the energy stopped.

Profound changes of perception came without warning in improbable circumstances.

While dining alone at Rothman's on Long Island, the Presence suddenly intensified until every thing and every person, which had appeared as separate in ordinary perception, melted into a timeless universality and oneness.

In the motionless Silence, it became obvious that there are no 'events' or 'things' and that nothing actually 'happens' because past, present, and future are merely artifacts of perception, as is the illusion of a separate 'I' being subject to birth and death.

As the limited, false self dissolved into the universal Self of its true origin, there was an ineffable sense of having returned home to a state of absolute peace and relief from all suffering.

It is only the illusion of individuality that is the origin of all suffering.

►When one realizes that one is the universe, complete and at one with All That Is, forever without end, then no further suffering is possible.◄

How can one quicken this coming of realization?

DO NOT DOUBT THAT YOU ARE THE REALITY
Q. How can one quicken this coming of realization?
A. As one strives to know the true ‘I’ the attachment to objects, the bad and degrading thoughts gradually drop off.

The more one does not forget the Self, the more do elevating qualities become ours. Realization will come eventually.

Q. Why does an Upanishad say, “He whom the Atman chooses, to him alone does It reveal Itself, not to others?” Does not this seem arbitrary?

A. No. It is correct.
It chooses those only who devote themselves to It, who become Its devotees.
It draws such devotees inwards to Itself.

One must turn inward to find the Atman.
He who thinks of It, It will draw to Itself.

All such thoughts as ‘Attainment is hard’ or ‘Self-realization is far from me’, or ‘I have got many difficulties to overcome to know the Reality’, should be given up, as they are obstacles; they are created by this false self, ego.
They are untrue.
Do not doubt that you are the Reality; live in that understanding.

Never question it by referring your realization of it to some future time.
It is because people are victimized and hypnotized by such false thoughts that the Gita says that few out of millions realize the Self.

The order of asramas [four stages of life] was established as a general principle, i.e. to regulate the gradual development of the ordinary run of humanity.

But in the case of one highly mature and fully ripe for Atma vichara there is no graduated development.

In this case jnana vichara, i.e. the Self enquiry and the blooming of jnana, are immediate and quick.
